At the start of the game melee weapons are awesome, you can get the fire axe in the haunted hotel which will see you through the first 2 hub worlds. Tip #2: Melee doesn't scale as well as ranged. Instead go attack (briefest of pauses) attack (briefest of pauses) attack and so on in that rhythm.that way your character will always do the right to left forward slash every time. Spamming the attack button will cause your character to do a spin attack on the third swing, which lowers your DPS and leaves you vulnerable to a counter attack.

Tip #1: Melee attack by steady tapping instead of spamming.

So I thought I'd put together a few tips to make combat better for first time players, or returning veterans who might not have appreciated the game's (often ill-explained) mechanics.

I personally think VTMB's combat is actually pretty serviceable, although obviously the roleplay-heavy first half of the game is still more fun. The post yesterday about VTMB was awesome, but it got a lot of comments from people who didn't like the combat or felt the 2nd half was an endless frustrating slog.
