The OP's original problem is that they had the schematic, but were looking in the wrong place to craft it They were attempting to craft it in the Forge, but it must be crafted by hand or in a workbench. You do in fact need the schematic to craft the tools However, You can acquire the iron tools schematic with a single point in the Miner 69er skill tree No need to rely on luck unless you want to or are miserly about spending a skill point, the latter of which is unlikely since if you're going to do any significant amount of mining, you want to buy into the Miner 69er skill tree ASAP anyway. It's mentioned earlier in this thread, but I will reiterate it again for you and anyone else that comes to this by searching: As you literally have to go and find a random schematic with luck to be able to upgrade from wood tools & weapons. Quality only increased the durability if the item, not how effective it is. You may not of needed it when you guys last played but it is needed now and it's a very annoying update. Just adding to the above, if you want to increase the damage of the tool or weapon, loot/craft mods and add them to the item. An Axe to Grind: You can craft a stone axe as your first do-all tool and weapon.
